Anglia Ruskin University's story begins in 1858 when the art critic, patron, and philanthropist John Ruskin opened the Cambridge Art School. The art school grew to become what is Anglia Ruskin University today. The Chelmsford campus was originally in the city centre but moved to a new, purpose-built site in 1992. The Chelmsford campus has also undergone an ambitious programme of development. In 1995, Her Majesty the Queen opened the fittingly named Queen's building, home to the University Library. It has since been joined by the eye-catching Lord Ashcroft building, Sawyers Building and its SuperLabs, the Michael Salmon Building, housing cutting-edge medical simulation suites, and Arise Chelmsford, which offers labs, workshops, and office space to small businesses in the medical and advanced engineering sectors.

ARU College offers undergraduate and postgraduate pathways for applicants that do not meet the requirements for direct entry, have not studied the subjects required for the chosen degree, or spent some time out of education. Following completion of the ARU College pathway, students will benefit from direct entry onto an ARU degree.

Location: Having been awarded city status in 2012, Chelmsford has everything that is expected of a 21st century city set within a modern environment full of charm and character. Just a 35 minute train ride away from London, Chelmsford is a lively, vibrant city in the historical county of Essex. The city also has a rich history as it was one of the first Roman settlements in Britain and the birthplace of radio media.
Facilities: In the last five years, ARU has invested over £80 million in campus developments, with a further £124 million planned over the next five years. Specialist facilities include a suite of forensic science laboratories, 4 university libraries, a university eye clinic, 2 art galleries, and mock courtrooms, hospital wards, and operating theatres.
Emphasis on internationalisation: One in five students at ARU is from outside the UK, creating a diverse student body population and allowing for students of all backgrounds to feel welcome.
Employability: ARU is 5th in England and top in the East of England region for UK undergraduates in employment or further study 15 within 15 months of graduating.

36 out of 36 programs are eligible for Post-Study Work Visa.

Post-Study Work Visa will be open to all students, on Tier 4 visas, who are accepted onto a course in the 2020 intake or later. Once you have successfully completed a course of study at the undergraduate level or above at an approved UK Higher Education Provider you would be able to stay and work (in any sector or at any level) for a maximum of two years.

Cooperative education (or co-operative education) and internships are methods of combining classroom-based education with practical work experience. A cooperative education experience ("co-op"), provides academic credit for structured job experience. Co-ops are full-time, paid or unpaid positions. Internships may be full-time or part-time, paid or unpaid positions.

Students wishing to live off-campus need to research availability on their own, and should arrive well before the start of term to do so.
